Cash Basis Accounting PowerPoint And Google Slides
Cash Basis Accounting: Five Slides Answering the Questions People Actually Ask
Cash basis accounting is simple to define and awkward to teach, because the interesting part is the gap — the invoice went out Thursday, the money landed Sunday, and only Sunday counts.
The deck opens there. A worked example follows John Doe from invoice to payment with the rule stated flat beside it: nothing is recorded as a sale until the cash is in hand.
The four slides that follow each take a question:
How does it actually work? — six columns: revenue recognition, expense recognition, cash transactions, receivables and payables, financial statements, and limitations.
What is it really like to use? — five characteristics listed without flattery. Simple, clear and flexible. Single-entry. Inefficient, inaccurate and unreliable. No matching concept, no GAAP conformity. Not a good management tool. Three of the five are criticisms, which makes this a slide you can teach honestly from rather than a sales pitch for the method.
How do I convert from accrual? — a six-step procedure: subtract accrued expenses, accounts receivable and accounts payable; then shift prior period sales, customer prepayments, and prepayments to suppliers.
How does it compare? — a split circle running cash against accrual on three lines: when revenue is recorded, when expenses are recorded, and when income becomes taxable. This is the slide most people will screenshot.
Mint, sky blue, indigo, amber and rose outline the boxes against white — light enough that the diagrams read as reference material rather than decoration.
It fits bookkeeping and accounting training, a small-business or freelancer advisory session, or the comparison segment of an accounting course.
Six further slides carry icon libraries, shape-editing guidance and licence terms. Edit labels, sequences and colour outlines in PowerPoint or Google Slides, or work through SlideEgg's Edit option first.
Cash basis is where the books start. Audit Process covers what happens when someone checks them, and Income Tax picks up the timing question this method creates — both filed with it under Financials.
